A long message since we won’t be meeting for a bit

Thank you all for an excellent session on Monday, and special thanks to Michael and Matthew for being our first facilitator and notetaker- it’s never easy to go first! As was suggested in class, I have begun an experimental collaborative glossary. “Begun” might be overstating- I typed a kernel of instructions on a google doc). I’m not sure what it might grow into as we go, but I am very curious, so please feel free to add to it (with either terms or definitions or both).

My Tuesday message is exceptionally late this week, but as we won’t meet again until Thursday, February 22 for our Week 3 discussion, I hope it is not too much of an inconvenience. As we have this little break before our Week 3 and 4 discussions (and because I want to discuss all of them with you!), I will not be dividing the work between priority and stretch, but if you are pressed for time, you might try reading only 1 or 2 chapters from the longer works (reserving the other chapters for the summer, when you have more time ;o) Matthew is our facilitator for class on February 22 and Teddy has February 28, so they may exercise facilitator’s rights to add/drop a reading/work- make sure to watch our group for any updates.

In addition to preparing for our next discussion, you will likely wish to use the next two weeks to work on your Review and Lightning Talk. Two projects have already been claimed on the assignment instructions, so make sure to add yours as soon as you have selected it. I will be interested to hear (or perhaps read in blog posts?) about your search and selection processes.

Also, if you haven’t already seen it, our class member Teddy has an event on February 14. “MapLemon–Representing Diverse Identities in Data” is a presentation about Teddy’s project MapLemon, which you can read more about in this article. Read more about the event and register at the UC Boulder site.
